The Premie-Neuro Exam

About The Premie-Neuro Exam

The Premie-Neuro is an assessment tool for the neurological evaluation of VLBW neonates and infants.

The Premie-Neuro method of assessment is based on principles and theories of measurement for clinical evaluations. Neurologic evaluation is difficult to perform on preterm infants. It is an important part of the clinical assessment to determine progress, deterioration, or need for intervention.

It is one of the only assessments for infants in the NICU that tailors scoring based on the infant’s PMA. It is the only neurobehavioral assessment for medically fragile and immature infants with an abbreviated form (8 items that are conducted with the infant in supine along with 8 observations) for infants < 28 weeks PMA and/or who are intubated. It is a 24 item assessment with 16 items that are conducted with the infant and 8 observations of infant behavior and motor responses during the assessment.

*NOTE: You must purchase the manual and have it with you before the course date, print off 5 score sheets, and bring a doll to the session.
